Sacco
INTERVIEW 2
A
BROTHER AMONG THE AUDIENCE
(Translation:
Ema Coll)
Gastón
Gonçalves is a musician,.....
, he is 34, father of three children 8, 10 and 14 years old. His mother
Mercedes Faggionato brought him up. He was 7 when his father Gastón
Roberto
José Gonçalves... , was "captured, tortured y
disappeared" the very day of the military coup in 1976. Eight years
ago he recovered his father's mortal remains that had been found by
the Argentinian Team of Forensic
Anthropology and he found his brother Claudio.
Wednesday, March 17 23:50 PM.
- Hello, Gastón?
-
Yeah, who is it?
-
I'm Marta Sacco. If it's too late for you I'll call you tomorrow. I
want to ask you a few questions for an interview.
-
No, it's O.K., go ahead.
- A German artist launched a global calling [R] - [R]
- [F] that forms part of a greater project about Globalization
and Violence. I'm working at it doing some interviews, together with
artists from different disciplines, curators, theorists from all the
world. [R] - [R] - [F]
[R]emembering - [R]epressing -
[F]orgetting, is the slogan. Remembering, Repressing, Forgetting
. Choose one of these words and tell me what it arouses in you.
- Remembering , because memory is fundamental to get to know who you
are, and to prevent all the things that happened to us in our country
from happening again. Not to have memory is just like being empty.
-
the fact that Argentina President, who was a universitary activist in
the 70's, in a way a survivor of the genocide carried out from the 1976
coup d'état, does it make a difference for you in this 28º
anniversary of March, 24 coup?
- Yes, I believe so, because when I get up in the morning I can realize
throught the news that this president is doing some things that, in
20 years of democracy, others did not, and he has not used his actions
as a promise to entice us to cast the vote. For me he is the president
who has been closer to the people, since I can remember. There are so
many signals and reparation actionsŠ But sometimes it is also true
that I don't know if I want to believe, for fear of getting disappointed
and feeling bruised.
Claudio
was born on June 27,
1976 and he was named Manuel, in November that same year when in a military
operation his mother, Ana María Granada, is murdered. He is saved
by his mother because she keeps him away in a cupboard. He spends six
months in a hospital until he is adopted by a family who had no relation
with the repressive forces.
The search by Abuelas
de Plaza de Mayo (Plaza de Mayo Grandmothers) and the work done
by the Argentinian Team of Forensic Anthropology (EAAF) that finds Ana
María's mortal remains provide the possibility to locate Claudio
who, in due time, learns that he has a brother who is the musician of
the band he admires and of which he never misses a concert.
The
testimony
of Gastón (h) and Claudio ... is one of the selected by the
Argentinian film-maker
David Blaustein director of the documental Botín de Guerra
(War Boot) a film about the rescue of the lost identity.
The musical theme used at the ending of the film, Sin cadenas (Without
chains), by the reggae Argentinian group Los Pericos where Gastón
Gonçalves plays the bass can be listened to
